Address concerns of mass organisations, says Yechury

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI : Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury has asked for the postponement of the finalisation of the Environmental Impact Assessment Notification, 2005.

In a letter to Union Environment and Forests Minister A.Raja, the leader said it had come to his notice that the Ministry was finalising the notification without addressing the concerns of several mass organisations. This notification would have a big impact on the life of people living in resource-rich areas and it was, therefore, essential that their concerns were addressed, it said adding that for this it was also important that the draft notification was discussed in Parliament.
