Dharwad to have Regional Science Centre soon

  • Minister holds meeting with university officials

    DHARWAD: Minister for Planning, Small Savings and Lottery and Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda said on Monday that the Regional Science Centre here would become functional in a few months.

    Addressing presspersons here after visiting the site identified for the centre, he said Rs. 3.5 crore had been released for the project.

    A science park and science centre on the lines of Kolkata Science Centre would come up on 25 acres of land earmarked for the project, he added.

    Earlier, the Minister held discussions with officials of the university. Pralhad Joshi and Manjunath Kunnur, MPs, and in-charge Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University A. Murigeppa were present.

    Meeting

    The Minister held a meeting to review the progress in the implementation of welfare schemes by the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat.

    The Minister directed the officials of the zilla panchayat to work towards reaching the benefits of the development schemes to the beneficiaries.

    The Minister sought information on the implementation of the Bhagya Lakshmi scheme, and distribution of bicycles to girl students and ration cards in the district.

    Geeta Patil, president of the zilla panchayat, and B.B. Gangadharmath, vice-president of the zilla panchayat, brought to the notice of the Minister the shortage of funds faced by some departments of the zilla panchayat.

    They requested the Minister to grant Rs. 33.1 crore for 11 departments.

    The Minister asked the officials to submit a proposal urging the State Government set up a district planning committee at the earliest.
