Subash shines in CE's win

KOCHI: After suffering a few early jitters, Federation Cup champion Central Excise defeated South East Central Railway (Bilaspur) in a men's Group `B' match of the Geojit Cup all-India basketball tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Monday.

The Kochi side was down 17-25 after the first quarter and 37-40 at half-time. But it came back strongly in the second half, with former international Subash Shenoy sparkling in the team's recovery.

The results: Men's Group `B': Central Excise, Kochi 75 (Subash Shenoy 36, V. Vivek 12, Joe Antony 11) bt South East Central Railway, Bilaspur 59 (J. Parmar 18, Prakash Rao 15).

Women's Group B: Central Railway, Mumbai 84 (M. Beena 14, S. Indu 11, S.C. Manisha 10) bt St. Xavier's, Aluva 35 (Simi Jose Kavalakatt 15, M.J. Lija 15). — Principal Correspondent
