KOZHIKODE: The School Pachaka Thozhilali Sangatana will hold a mass fast before the Secretariat on Tuesday in support of its demands. It is demanding immediate disbursement of arrears and implementation of wage hike. State secretary K.V. Hussain said school cooks were not getting salaries promptly. They were not eligible for Onam advance or festival allowance though they were paid from the amount allotted by the Central and State Governments.
Arrears
Though the previous UDF Government declared wage hike and payment of arrears, the workers were not paid the arrears for the last 17 months. No steps were taken even though petitions were submitted to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Education Minister M.A. Baby. There were about 15,000 school cooks in lower primary and upper primary sections of Government and aided category schools in the State.
