YSR greets teachers

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and School Education Minister N. Rajyalakshmi greeted teachers on the occasion of Teacher's Day on Tuesday.

In a message, Dr. Reddy congratulated teachers chosen for best State teacher awards. He called upon both teachers and students to work hard in pursuit of knowledge and rededicate themselves for achieving best standards. Ms. Rajyalakshmi sought people's cooperation in achieving the goal of education for all. - Special Correspondent

YSR's Onam greetings

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy had greeted Malayalees in the State on the auspicious occasion of Thiruonam (Onam) on September 5.

In a message, he said the festival symbolised the commencement of harvest season. It was also a symbol of universal love, social equality and amity in the mainstream of life. CITU campaign

HYDERABAD: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Monday launched a signature campaign demanding steps to solve workers' problems and to make the `sramika jana chaitanya yatra' being organised by the State committee a success. MRO arrested by ACB

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday arrested Bachu Prashant, MRO of Vikarabad, on charges of `demanding and accepting' Rs. 2,000 for changing the revenue records and issuing passbooks for the lands purchased at Boorgupalli and Gottimukkalla villages.

According to an ACB release the official was arrested and being produced before the court. - Special Correspondent

Transco officials locked

ADILABAD: Villagers of Bazarhatnoor on Monday forcibly locked Transco officials in their offices at the Bazarhatnoor sub-station for over one hour, angry over unannounced power cut. They relented only when Agriculture Department officials assured them of looking into the matter of power cuts. - Staff Reporter

One killed in clash

KURNOOL: One person was killed in a group clash at Panyam in Kurnool district on Sunday night. According to reports, two groups clashed over differences that cropped up in the panchayat elections. R.M. Subbaiah, former sarpanch, TDP, died in the attack. A case was registered against 13 persons . - Staff Reporter

Courier surrenders

VIZIANAGARAM: V. Gopala Rao (20), alias Gopi alias Azad, acting as a courier for Maoists, surrendered before Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh Mann here on Monday along with two wireless sets. At a press conference, Mr. Mann said Gopi's father V.R. Lakshmana Rao, a resident of Karakavanipalem in Pendurthi mandal of Visakhapatnam district, had naxal links. Gopi's two sisters Aruna and Nirmala were also working for Maoists, he said. - Correspondent

Freshers' Day

Kakinada: Women empowerment is the need of the hour for the well-being of society and educated women are playing a key role in country's all-round development, according to Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna.

He was participating as chief guest in the Freshers' Day celebrations of Aditya Women's Degree College here on Sunday night.

Nod for flyover

Kakinada: Proposal for the long-awaited flyover across the railway level crossing at Perrajupet near the RTC bus station complex in the city has been cleared by the Railways and the State Government will provide its share of funds for its execution, according to Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, Minister for Roads and Buildings.

Speaking to newsmen here on Monday, he said the flyover, costing Rs.18 crores, would have to be completed in next two years.

He said two more flyovers across the railway level crossings at Sambamurthy Nagar and Achyuthapuram were yet to receive the Government's clearance.-Correspondent

Homoeo camp for chikungunya patients

VIZIANAGARAM: Uma Alisha Rural Development Trust, Pithapuram, a voluntary body, in association with NSS unit of Lakshmi Devi Gupta Junior College here is organising a free homoeo camp for chikungunya patients at Kshatriya Kalyanamandapam, Jonnaguddi, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Preventive medicine for chikungunya will also be distributed free of cost, according to a release.

Help for doctors' families

Kakinada : The Indian Medical Association has launched the family protection scheme to help families of private doctors who died leaving the families in dire straits, according to N. Apparao, National coordinator and architect of the scheme. Presenting a cheque for Rs.12 lakhs to the family members of late Dr Rajendra Prasad neurosurgeon at the IMA function here on Sunday, he said so far they had rendered financial assistance to the tune of Rs.2.5 Crores to the families of 20 doctors in the state. Transco engineer

dies of heart attack

SRIKAKULAM: Yedla Prakasha Rao, Superintending Engineer, Transco, died of massive heart attack in Visakhapatnam on Monday while attending a review meeting. His body was being taken to his native town Rajahmundry for final rites.

Two women killed as

lorry overturns

KURNOOL: Two women were killed when a lorry overturned near Yemmiganur in Kurnool district on Monday.

According to reports, the accident occurred when a lorry laden with cement bags overturned near Masumanudoddi. Laxmi Devi (42) and Lingamma (28) died on the spot.

Over 70 idols immersed

in Gaddenavagu

ADILABAD: Ganesh nimajjanam at Bhainsa town was a peaceful affair on Monday as the centralised procession wound its way through the narrow lanes without any incident. Adilabad Superintendent of Police Kripanand Tripathi Ujela flagged off the procession at 11.30 am. Over 70 idols were taken out for immersion in Gaddenavagu. Bhainsa CI K. Surender Reddy said the procession started at Batti galli and passed through Old Bazar, Gujri galli, Marwadi galli and Panjesha chowk before reaching Gaddennavagu for immersion. - Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: Applications for admission to the Jawahar Navodaya School at a Vargal in Medak district should apply on or before October 31 on the prescribed format available free of cost at the DEO's office here or the MEO or from the school in Navodaya school in Vargal. Sangareddy: Former Minister and TRS leader T. Harish Rao has demanded twelve hours of power to farming sector in the Telangana region. Addressing a dharna in front of the Siddipet Transco DE's office, Harish Rao alleged that the State Government has been diverting water from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar projects to coastal and Rayalaseema regions there by affecting generation of power vital for agriculture in dry land region.
