NEW DELHI: The Sikh community in the Capital has strongly denounced the demolition action carried out by the Delhi Development Authority at the Manju ka Tila Gurdwara complex on Friday and asked the agency to immediately tender an apology. Addressing a press conference here over the weekend, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Harvinder Singh Sarna demanded immediate suspension of DDA and Delhi police officials who carried out the drive besides seeking a high-level probe into the demolition action. Claiming that no illegal construction has been carried out in the complex of the historic Gurdwara situated on the banks of the river Yamuna, Mr. Sarna said before carrying out the drive, DDA had not even served a notice identifying the so-called illegal structures. The land on which the building has been constructed is meant for "sevadars" who serve Sikh devotees visiting the Gurdwara, he said, adding that the land has been under the control of the Gurdwara management for centuries and was the property of the Gurdwara.
