Court to hear Vande Mataram petition today

Lucknow: A writ petition seeking to make mandatory for every one in Government, semi-government and educational institutions, except Muslims, to recite Vande Mataram on September 7 was filed in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday.

The petition by B. N. Shukla was filed in the registry of the court and was likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.

The petitioner has also sought directives to the Union and State Governments to ensure that Muslims were not allowed to participate in the celebrations and the recital of Vande Mataram.

It pleaded that Vande Mataram had been accorded the status of national anthem. PTI
