New Delhi: Expressing hope that he will get justice, C.L. Mattoo, father of Priyardarshini Mattoo who was allegedly raped and murdered by the son of an IPS officer in 1996, on Monday said that there was enough evidence to book the accused "if the CBI does its homework well". Mattoo, in an interview with a TV news channel, said, "It is not me alone, the trial court judge minced no words in saying that he (Santosh Singh) was the culprit." "The trial judge has pointed out certain deficiencies during the trial but that can be tided up and removed if the CBI does its homework well," he said adding his neighbours had also pointed accusing fingers at Singh who had allegedly visited his house on the fateful day. In reply to a query, Mattoo denied that his daughter had any relation with the accused, who was absolved from the charges of rape and murder for want of evidence. "Not only us, the witnesses in the trial came to us and said they were being threatened," he said adding that he would appear before the High Court on September 5. -- PTI
