New Zealand education fair in Chennai

Representatives from over 20 institutions will counsel students

Chennai: "New Zealand Education Fair 2006," organised jointly by that country's Trade & Enterprise and Education New Zealand, will be held in Chennai on September 7 (Thursday) at Hotel Taj Coromandel (12 noon to 5 p.m).

Representatives from over 20 educational institutions across New Zealand will counsel students aspiring to study in New Zealand, which is emerging as a educational hub for higher studies among students..

It offers clean, healthy and safe environment along with a multicultural society that welcomes students from different parts of the world.

According to Paul Vaughan, the country's Trade Commissioner to India, "New Zealand is increasingly gaining popularity as a destination in education since we began these fairs six years ago. We are witnessing a substantial growth in the number of visa applications year-on-year. Though the numbers are small presently, there is a potential for the growth.

"There is a huge demand for skilled workforce in New Zealand and lot of Indians are currently contributing to the burgeoning New Zealand economy. We hope these fairs would act as a stepping stone for other Indian students who would want to take advantage of global education and work in an international environment."

Educational institutions in New Zealand offers various courses, including Business Studies, Engineering, IT and Computing, Food and Dairy Technology, Plant Science and Horticulture, Hospitality and Hotel Management, Nursing, Forestry, Sports Management among others.

Expert counsellors at the fair will address students' queries on visa, accommodation, fees, food, climate, support services etc.

All the New Zealand universities, government-funded polytechnics, institutes of technology and a number of private technical education providers are participating in the fair.

These institutions offer courses of study accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, and are signatories to New Zealand's mandatory Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
