Two killed in road accident

CHENNAI : Two persons died in an accident near Sholinganallur on Old Mahabalipuram Road on Sunday.

Police identified the victims as V. Selvaraj (52) and his friend S. Dakshinamoorthy (48) of Karappakkam village on Old Mahabalipuram Road. Police said that Selvaraj was on his way to distribute invitations to his son's wedding on a two-wheeler when the tragedy occurred. He was riding pillion on a vehicle with Dakshinamoorthy around 4 p.m. near Sholinganallur, when a tipper-lorry coming in the opposite direction, hit the two-wheeler. Selvaraj died on the spot and his friend was declared dead on arrival at a private hospital.

As a large crowd gathered, the lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. The Guindy Traffic investigation police have registered a case and are investigating.

Cash stolen

Jewellery weighing 20 sovereigns in gold and Rs 55,000 in cash were stolen from a house in Ennore.

The incident came to light on Sunday.

Police said Sundarambal (55), staying in Nettukkuppam village, left for Periyapalayam temple along with her family on Friday.

She returned on Sunday morning and found the house broken into and the valuables missing. Ennore police have registered a case and are investigating.
