Three army men killed in Kashmir

Srinagar: Three army personnel, including a captain, and an equal number of militants were killed in a 20-hour fierce gun battle in the Bandipora area of Baramulla district.

A defence spokesman said the encounter broke out in Ayatmullah village, about 57 km from here, on Sunday evening.

It ended on Monday afternoon.

He said on a tip-off about movement of militants, an army column led by Capt. A.J.I. Anthony was launched after a firefight commenced between militants, holed up in a house, and the army in which the Captain and his men were killed. — PTI
