Bidar: After receiving positive response from its distance education centres in West Asia, Bangalore University wants to expand into Far East and South-East Asia. K. Narahari, chairman of the University Distance Education Directorate and former MLC, told presspersons that the university's centres in UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Sharjah had received good response. "We are increasing the number of courses in those centres from this year. We have been invited to open centres in China, Sri Lanka and other South-East Asian countries. An inspection committee will soon travel to China to inspect infrastructure in those areas," he said. He was here to inaugurate a centre at the Mahatma Phule Education Society in Bidar. The directorate had centres in New Delhi, Rajastan, Kolkatta, Haryana and Jammu, he said. Mr. Narahari said Supreme Court had not allowed any Indian University to open distance education centres anywhere in the country. This had strengthened the resolve of the university to open more centres, he said. The wing would start diploma courses in Information Technology-Enabled Services, computer applications and journalism, director B.C. Mailarappa said. The directorate would start B. Ed., courses in the continuing education section this year.
