Governor gives credit to teachers for progress achieved in education

He urges them to prepare good citizens with scientific temper



FOR BEST TEACHERS: The Governor T.N. Chaturvedi inaugurating the State-level teachers' awards presentation ceremony in Belgaum on Tuesday.

HUBLI: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has called upon teachers to help students in becoming good citizens by imbibing in them moral values, good conduct and scientific temper.

The Governor was speaking at the State level "Teachers' Day" celebrations organised by the Department of Public Instruction in Belgaum on Tuesday after conferring awards on 40 best teachers.

Teachers should work diligently to make the living standards of their students better by imparting them quality education, the Governor said.

"To prepare meritorious students, meritorious teachers are essential and for that the education field requires good number of teaching talents," he said.

Merit

The Governor said merit was the reason for the present progress in society.

Responsible and dedicated efforts of teachers had led to all-round development in the field of education.

This should be understood by society and the Government and accordingly facilities should be provided to them, he added.

Foundation

Since primary and secondary education was the foundation on which a person would build his life, it should be given priority, he said.

The Governor called upon teachers to prepare students in such a way that they should be able to portray the rich culture of the country throughout the world.

The Governor conferred the State-level awards on 20 primary school teachers and 10 high school teachers and felicitated them.

He honoured 10 best teachers for their valuable contribution in the field of education and science.

Lesson on Chennamma

Minister for Horticulture and district in-charge Shashikanth Naik said the life of Kittur Rani Channamma, the first woman to stand against the British rule, should be highlighted in textbooks.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti said the State Government was spending Rs. 5,000 crore for primary and secondary education, which showed its commitment towards resolving problems faced by teachers.

Legislative Council Chairman Sacchidanand Khot, and MLC Prabhakar Kore spoke.

Ramesh Kudachi, Belgaum MLA, presided over the function. MLC M.P. Nadagouda was present. Vijaybhaskar, Secretary to the Government, Department of Education, welcomed the gathering. Madangopal, Commissioner of Public Instruction, proposed a vote of thanks.
