SRIKAKULAM: With a view to expediting the implementation of Relief and Rehabilitation (RR) package for the displaced persons of Stage II of phase II of Vamsadhara project, a new RR unit will start functioning from the Collectorate from Thursday. Joint Collector M. Veerabramaiah, who is also the administrator of the RR package, told The Hindu that the Government had initially released Rs.10 crores for the package. The amount would be utilised for the oustees of Chinnakollivalasa, Gunabhadra, Kaligam, Mahasingi and Parapuram villages. So far no funds were available for the RR package and it had an impact on the progress of work of the project. In all, 785 families would be displaced from the five villages. The Joint Collector, who reviewed the land acquisition proceedings and the RR package on Tuesday, said that disbursement under this package would begin from September 25. He directed officials concerned to complete all formalities and ensure that families receiving money under the RR package vacate their dwellings.
Payment
He said that two colonies were proposed at Moduguvalasa and Parapuram to rehabilitate project displaced families. For the purpose of payments under the RR package, evacuees would be categorised into PDFs and PAFs (project affected families). Also the payment of wage compensation would differ depending on whether the person is a small farmer, marginal farmer, landless poor or agricultural labourer. While the landless labourer would get wages for 750 days, the small farmer, marginal farmer and agricultural labourer would get 500 days, 370 days and 620 days of wage compensation respectively. The PDFs would get additional compensation for 240 days. In view of the workload, a requisition was sent to the Government for provision of additional staff. About Rs. 200 crores would have to be spent in the coming two years, Mr. Veerabrahmaiah said.
