SRIKAKULAM: Teachers' Day was celebrated in different parts of the district on Tuesday. Speaking at a meeting got up to felicitate award winning teachers at Dr. Ambedkar auditorium here, District Collector V.N. Vishnu called upon the teaching community to rise up to the expectations of parents and students in imparting quality education. Municipal Chairperson M.V. Padmavathi, District Education Officer Sheik Jaleel Saheb and others participated. Later 33 teachers, who had won the best teacher awards, retired headmasters, mandal education officers and headmasters of three ZP High Schools -- Maruvada, Borigivalasa and Palavalasa - were felicitated.
College's gesture
Kakinada: Ideal College students, teachers and non-teaching staff donated Rs.50,000 for flood victims. A delegation of the college, consisting of P. Chiranjivini Kumary, correspondent, T. Nagireddi, principal, and others, called on Collector M. Subrahmanyam and handed over a cheque for the amount.
Call to teachers
VIZIANAGARAM: 34 teachers--16 primary, 7 upper primary and 11 high school-- were given best teacher awards and felicitated them at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall on the occasion of Teachers' Day here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Collector, B. Kishore asked teachers to motivate parents to send their children to schools. Zilla Parishad Chairperson, B. Jhansi Lakshmi and others spoke.
Money doesn't matter
Rajahmundry: Officer on Special Duty Professor C. Ratnam said money is not an essential thing for a student to pursue higher studies and teachers should prove that they live up to the ideals of Dr. Radhakrishnan. Delivering the keynote address in Andhra Kesari Degree College, which was presided over by Minister for Roads and Buildings, J. Ramamohana Rao, Mr. Ratnam recalled that the great philosopher, a good teacher and who got world applause for his knowledge should be followed and it would be the actual tribute that could be paid to him. Mr. Ramamohana Rao advised teachers to be regular and punctual. He made a special mention about Dr. Radhakrishnan who had worked as Lecturer in Rajahmundry. AK College founder president and historian Y.S. Narasima Rao explained his close friendship with Dr. Radhakrishnan.
