JEYPORE: The Communist Party of India (Maoist) special zonal committee, Andhra-Orissa border, has urged the Central Government to declare the Malkanagiri floods a national calamity and allocate sufficient funds and relief material for the flood-affected people in the district. Special zonal committee leader Bhaskar has alleged that both State and Central governments have failed in extending relief to peaple in flood-affected areas.
Cheques distributed
Local MLA Rabinarayana Nanda has urged the Special Relief Commissioner to ensure aid for the houses damaged during the recent floods in the Jeypore sub-division. At a programme organised by revenue officials here recently, he distributed compensation cheques among the flood-affected persons. Tahasildar of Jeypore V. Jagga Rao and other officials were present.
Boy drowned
A fourteen-year-old boy, P. Santhosh, was drowned in the Neelkanta Sagar tank here on Sunday. The body was traced by the police and handed over to his family.
