Special Correspondent
SHIMOGA: President of the Janata Dal (S) H.D. Deve Gowda said here on Tuesday that he would not come in the way of the implementation of the Common Minimum Programme (CMP). Mr. Deve Gowda, who arrived here on a two-day visit to Shimoga district, was addressing party workers. Referring to the controversy over the singing of Vande Mataram in public places, he said the Government had handled it well by leaving it to the discretion of the individual educational institution. He said nothing should be done to derive political mileage from the issue as Vande Mataram was essentially a patriotic song. He was all praise for the manner in which the Government had been managing the affairs. He reiterated that he was organising the party only to take up the cause of the neglected sections. Mr. Deve Gowda said he had taken up the State-wide tour to streamline the organisation. He said he would hold divisional and district-level con- ferences of party workers after the tour by the end of the month.
