Action recommended against three officials

  • During search, cash was recovered from accused

    BANGALORE: Upa Lokayukta G. Patri Basavana Goud has recommended disciplinary action against officials of the Medical Department who were allegedly found in possession of Rs. 87,760. The officials were accused of demanding and accepting bribe for issuing orders for starting new nursing schools and new courses. It was on July 28 that Mr. Goud took suo motu action based on information that Ganachari, under secretary in the Medical Department, Srinivasa, junior assistant, and Mukthar Pasha and K.Y. Ramesh, two assistants, received bribe from nursing schools, paramedical schools and nursing colleges.

    He asked Lokayukta Police Inspector V. Shekar to investigate the matter and also issued a warrant to conduct a search in the department concerned in the 1st floor of Vikasa Soudha.

    During the course of the search, Mr. Shekar recovered Rs. 580 from Mr. Ganachari, Rs. 3,600 from Mr. Srinivasa, Rs. 5,750 from Mr. Pasha and Rs. 77,830 from Mr. Ramesh. Mr. Shekar also recovered the copies of Government Order given in favour of four institutions.

    After Mr. Shekar submitted a report, Mr. Goud called for explanations from the four officials. After perusing their replies, Mr. Goud concluded that the allegations were true.

    After submitting a report under Section 12 (3) of Karnataka Lokayukta Act, Mr. Goud urged the Government to initiate disciplinary action. He also asked the Government to entrust the Lokayukta institution with the task of conducting the inquiry. Mr. Goud asked the Government to intimate the action taken or the action it proposed to take to the Lokayukta within the next three months.
