BANGALORE: General Secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and MLC Prakash Rathod has said that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the Janata Dal (S) spokesman and MLC Y.S.V. Datta have no moral right to criticise the Congress and the workers convention that the party held on Sunday under the leadership of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi. In a statement here on Tuesday, he said it was apparent that the criticism was borne out of a feeling of insecurity in the Janata Dal (S). The day was not far off when the coalition Government in the State would collapse and it was, therefore, natural that the Congress was gearing up to face the Legislative Assembly elections. As such the Janata Dal (S) was facing a threat at regular intervals with its coalition partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party, exposing "the skeletons in the Janata Dal (S) cupboards". The Chief Minister and the Janata Dal (S) spokesman have said that the convention organised by the Congress had no message for the benefit of the people who had gathered in large numbers nor it was of any interest to the State as the AICC president did not announce any relief package for the victims of floods and drought. They said, "the Rs. 40 crore spent on the 45-minute meeting was indeed a wasteful expenditure." Mr. Prakash Rathod said it was the right of the Congress or any political party to hold party workers conventions. The huge attendance at the Congress convention was a reflection of the people's support for the party.
