Rupee moves up further

MUMBAI: The rupee today rallied against the U.S. currency and ended at an eight-week high of 46.28/29 per dollar on Tuesday on heavy inflow. Unwinding of long dollar positions by corporates and importers as well as steep fall in dollar against the Chinese currency also gave a boost to the Indian unit.

In a active trade at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened higher at 46.33/34 a dollar from overnight close of 46.34/35 and after shooting up to an intra-day high of 46.1700, ended at 46.28/29 a dollar, a level not seen since July 12 when the Indian unit ended at 46.23/24 a dollar.
