CHENNAI: The number of personnel in 14 police stations in the State is expected to increase with the Government deciding to upgrade them at a cost of Rs.4.18 crore. In Chennai, four police stations will benefit from the decision. The stations to be upgraded are, Kalpakkam, Chidambaram, Pattukottai, Madhikonepalayam and Krishnapuram in Dharmapuri district; Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district; Othakadai and Thirupparankundram in Madurai district; Koodangulam in Tirunelveli district; Sathuvachary in Vellore district; and M.M.Colony, Mangadu, Kundrathur and Muthapudupet in Chennai. Stations categorised as rural police stations will benefit most, official sources say. Similarly, considering the increasing demand for regular policing, outposts at K.G.Chavadi in Coimbatore district; Coleroon and Manikandam in Tiruchi district; Moongilthuraipattu in Villupuram district; Naduveeranpattu in Cuddalore; Melpatti in Vellore district; Appan Tirupathi in Madurai district; Kottiyodu in Kanyakumari district; and Tirupur railway police outpost will beupgraded as police stations at a cost of Rs.2.96 crore.
More facilities
Facilities for the public and serving personnel will improve with the Government deciding to upgrade Walajahbad, Veppapakkam, Arani Taluk, Cheyyar, Hosur Sipcot, Hosur Town, Madhikonepalayam, B1Bazaar, Palladam, Pollachi East, Andimadam, Velliyanai, Lalapet, Samayapuram, Srivilliputhur town, Dindigul North Town, Ilayangudi, Kalakkad, Pudukadai, Chinnamanur, Murappanadu, Thirumangalam town, Ramanathapuram town and Palayamkottai police station buildings. New buildings are to be constructed for 26 police stations at a cost of Rs.5.42 crore. Besides Vyasarpadi in North Chennai, Pazhavanthangal and Puzhal police stations, which have come under the jurisdiction of the City Police Commissionerate, will have new buildings. This will cost the exchequer Rs.1.90 crore. About Rs.3.78 crore has been allocated for computerisation project in the State police this year.
