Suspension of Brar loyalists revoked

Staff Correspondent

Decision taken after the leaders explained their position

  • Suspension was a fall-out of Jagmeet Brar-Amarinder Singh feud
  • The leaders assured the party of their committed work

CHANDIGARH: On the recommendation of the party's disciplinary committee, the president of the Punjab unit of the Congress, Shamsher Singh Dullo, has revoked the suspension of four senior party leaders who owe their loyalties to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) member, Jagmeet Singh Brar.

Former presidents of the Moga and Patiala district units of the party, Tara Singh Sandhu and Harinderpal Singh Mann, along with former Chairmen of the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) and the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), Kulbir Singh Sidhu and Ripujit Singh Brar, respectively, were suspended and served show-cause notices as a fall-out of factional feud between Mr. Jagmeet Singh Brar and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in May this year.

It is noteworthy that while the disciplinary procedures against Mr. Brar's loyalists have been completed after they explained their point of view, the matter of some ministers who had criticised Mr. Brar is still pending. The disciplinary committee had served notices to them to explain their actions as well.

According to a release signed by the Chairman of the disciplinary committee, G. K. Chatrath, the explanation and the undertaking forwarded by each of the suspended leaders was genuine and satisfactory. They assured the committee that they would work for strengthening the party and not rush to the media to vent their grievances against any party functionary or the Government.

Meanwhile, sources in the party said the decision to revoke the suspensions was taken after consulting the All-India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of party affairs in Punjab, Janardhan Dwivedi.
