DHARWAD: Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike gheraoed Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti here on Monday in protest against the delay in appointment of the Vice-Chancellor for the Karnatak University. The activists surrounded Mr. Horatti as soon as he alighted from his car after reaching the Karnatak University where he was to inaugurate the National Manuscripts Day programme and shouted slogans against him. The Minister was taken aback by the protest and was annoyed with the protestors. "I have become a Minister after staging several such protests. I have a concern for Kannada and Karnataka more than you people have. This is not the way to put forward your demands," Mr. Horatti said. The protestors reminded the Minister about the agitation he had staged as a syndicate member of the university urging for appointment of an academician belonging to north Karnataka as the vice-chancellor of the university. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Horatti said the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University would be finalised by September 8.
