PROCESSION: An idol of Ganesh being taken out in a procession for immersion in Hubli on Monday night.
HUBLI: The Ganesh Mandals of Old Hubli bid adieu to idols of Lord Ganesh here on Monday night with a colourful immersion procession. Idols of Lord Ganesh in various avatars and myriad colours were taken in processions from the place of the installation to Durgada Bail of Old Hubli from where the grand immersion procession was to start. Although the immersion procession was formally inaugurated in the evening, the event began quite late in the night as various processions taken out from Ganesh Mandals took time to teach the starting point. While a majority of the mandals had a group of young boys to dance to the tune of popular film numbers, some mandals had brought in folk artists from nearby places to perform. Inaugurating the procession, Narayan Nadamani, Police Commissioner of Hubli-Dharwad, appreciated the peaceful celebration of Ganeshotsava. Former MLA Ashok Katwe said it was a good sign that people belonging to other religions were joining hands with Ganesh Mandals in the celebration of the festival. The eleven-day Ganeshotsava will conclude on Wednesday evening with the immersion of Ganesh idols. The immersion procession will be flagged off at the Durgada Bail Circle and the idols will be immersed in the specially constructed artificial well at the Mahatma Gandhi garden.
