Sharmila in lead

BANGALORE: Sharmila Nicollet, with a score of one under 71, took a four-stroke lead in the gold division over Shruthi Khanna in the DT South India ladies golf tournament, which commenced here on Tuesday.

Shalini Malik was in third spot, two adrift of Shruthi Khanna. Sharmila had a blazing start with an eagle, followed by two birdies on the first three holes and ended the first nine with a four under score. Sharmila's back nine had a double bogey and a bogey with par scores on the rest of the holes.

In the silver division, Renuka Phillip led from Dhanalakshmi Rice with Nikki Ponappa in third place. Dhroupadi was the first-round leader in the bronze division with Priya Khanna in second place.

The first-round scores: Gold (0-12 Handicap) Sharmila Nicollet (71), Shruthi Khanna (75), Shalini Malik (77), Vaishavi Sinha (79), Sonam Chugh (79), Meghana Bal (81).

Silver division: (13-24) Renuka Phillip (85), Dhanalakshmi Rice (86), Nikki Ponappa (89), Meher Gupta (89), Madhavi Reddy (90).

Bronze division (25 -36): Dhroupadi (107), Gomathi Rajaram (109), Miki Tobari (112), Teruku (114), Ramani Arun Kumar (114).
