KURNOOL: The district administration will soon disburse Rs. 21 lakhs as relief to flood-hit farmers in three mandals of Kurnool district. According to officials, the Tungabhadra, which overflowed at Kautalam, Kosigi and C. Belagal mandals, has caused crop damage in 1,223 hectares. Kautalam is the worst hit with 910 hectares followed by Kosigi, 293 hectares and C. Belagal, 20 hectares. Paddy, onion and vegetable growers would get Rs. 1,875 per hectare and sunflower farmers Rs. 1,575 per hectare. Meanwhile, Joint Director of Agriculture Rajesham has said a contingency plan has been drawn up in 16 mandals where crops in 35,820 hectares have withered due to prolonged dry spell.
Seed subsidy
Mr. Rajesham said the Government was requested to supply 1,452 quintals of sunflower, 18,179 quintals Bengal gram, 656 quintals of jowar, 460 quintals horse gram, and 170 quintals green gram for distribution at a subsidy of 33 per cent. Mr. Rajesham said Rs. 2.61 crores was released under the crop insurance scheme in the district for the loss suffered last year.
