KURNOOL: CPI(M) floor leader Pulla Reddy and party corporators have opposed the move for replication of successful models of civic administration in the name of reforms. Talking to reporters on Tuesday, they said the Municipal Corporation had planned to take a group of floor leaders and officials of various departments on a study tour of Kakinada, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry corporations. The study tour is expected to cost Rs. 1.45 lakhs. Rajahmundry is expected to offer the well developed water quality laboratory, vermi-compost unit, public grievance redressal system, successful road widening programme and call centres. Computerization at Visakhapatnam, energy conservation at Vizianagaram and self-help groups of women at Kakinada are the other models to be studied. Mr. Pulla Reddy contended that Visakhapatnam Corporation had paid Rs. 2 crores to e-Seva centres, which was a burden on the people. Similarly, water supply was metered and the city was spending Rs. 10 crores on sanitation. He said it was an irony that while everybody acknowledged Orvakal Mandal Mahila Samakhya in Kurnool district as one of the role models in South Asia, the corporation was looking at Kakinada. He said the CPI(M) would oppose replication of those models in Kurnool as it would burden the citizens in the form of higher taxes. Corporators Nirmala and Ramudu were present.
