TRIBUTES: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu with the teachers he had earlier felicitated.
HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced formation of a teachers' union of the party. Addressing teachers after felicitating some of them on the occasion of Teachers Day, he referred to the persistent demand by teachersand said the unionwill be an ideal one, an example to be emulated by others. A meeting of teachers will be held here on September 24, to decide on the objectives and give a final shape to the union. Mr. Naidu said TDP had filled up 1,70,000 teachers' posts purely on merit, introduced system of counselling, ensured that spouses work in the same place, raised literacy and set up a string of institutions of higher learning. In contrast, the Government now was struggling to induct those who cleared DSC 2003, he alleged. He paid rich tributes to former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Among those felicitated were Ravva Srihari, former Vice-Chancellor of Dravidian University, Masanna Chinnappa of Osmania University, N. Gopal Reddy of Mahabubnagar, M. Ram Reddy of Ranga Reddy, V. Suresh and Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin of Warangal, T. Narsimha, T. Biksham, D. Venkateswara Rao and K. Rajakantha (all from Nalgonda), Umadevi, Abdul Nabi and Yellaiah Goud.
