Importance of `educational values' stressed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister M.A. Baby on Tuesday stressed the importance of values in the education sector.

"Educational values" should be the last word while taking decisions on any issue connected with the sector, and not money, caste or outside factors, said the Minister, while inaugurating National Teachers' Day celebrations at the Adhyapaka Bhavan here.

Mr. Baby described the services rendered by teachers as invaluable. Many thought it was the political leadership that moulded and guided society. But it was not so. It was done by the teachers. They had a major role to play in shaping the character of the people.

He attributed the murder of a professor by students in Ujjain to the failure to strengthen democracy and progressive ideas on campuses.
