NBW against advocate

Charges of committing criminal contempt of court

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued a non-bailable warrant against an advocate Gulshan Bhajwa on charges of committing criminal contempt of court by cursing the Bench and swearing at another advocate.

A Division Bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar issued the NBW after the previous bailable warrant issued on August 31, by the court against Bhajwa remained unexecuted as the various addressess furnished by the advocate turned out to be fictitious.

The Bench also issued notices to the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of Delhi to file their replies on the matter.

This is said to be the first incident in the Capital when the High Court had issued an NBW against a practising advocate.

On August 17, the Bench had held Bhajwa guilty of committing contempt of the court after he cursed the judges that there would be a bereavement in their families. Bhajwa also warned the opposite party counsel Rekha Phalli that she too would face the wrath of his curse.

The advocate claimed that he had inflicted similar curse on some Supreme Court judges which according to him turned out to be true. -PTI
