SHIMOGA: Hopes that the Government Medical College will start functioning from the next academic year appear to have been revived following a visit of the three-member team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) here on Tuesday. This is the second time that a separate MCI team visited the proposed college building under construction and studied the availability of the facilities at the Mcgann Government Hospital. It may be recalled that a similar study team of MCI which visited here in June last had reportedly said the facilities were not sufficient to start the medical college. What came as a surprise was the visit of another team of MCI to visit here again within three months to consider the feasibility of opening the medical college along with the one coming up at Hassan. The team comprising Kamalesh Kohil of Delhi who led it, Alaka Deshpande of Mumbai and Rashmi Babbar of Delhi held discussions with Deputy Commissioner T.K. Anilkumar and district surgeon Nanda Shinghe.
