Minister felicitates 14 teachers in Mysore Teachers' transfers will not be effected before April 7, says Minister

MYSORE: Fourteen teachers of Mysore district were felicitated on Tuesday on the occasion of Teachers' Day by Minister for Housing, D.T. Jayakumar.

After felicitating the teachers for their distinguished service, the Minister said transfers of teachers would not be effected before April 7 in the interest of students as transfers would affect academic continuity.

Referring to the increased number of schools being sanctioned, Mr. Jayakumar said that barely around 100 schools had been sanctioned during the last 10 years. He, however, pointed out that the incumbent government had sanctioned 600 schools within a few months of assuming power.

Teachers pulled up

Earlier, the Minister was furious seeing teachers trudging towards Kalamandira auditorium, the venue of the function, way beyond the scheduled time of 9 a.m. He said, "Though holiday was declared to enable the teachers to attend the function on time, teachers are coming here on compulsion, and that too leisurely." While politicians were branded as latecomers, teachers were also not keeping punctuality, he added.

Award winners

The 14 teachers who were felicitated on the occasion were bestowed with the District's Best Teachers' Award that carried a citation and shawl.

The award winners are G.V. Narasimha Prasad, H.T. Putte Gowda, Kumar, Masthari Begum, Rajesh, Chinnamma, S. Lakshmana Murthy, D. Chikkanna and B. Basave Gowda in primary school section and H.H. Lingaraje Gowda, Lokesh, V.R. Rajkumar, S. Vimalamma and S.M. Ramesh in high school section. MLAs H.S. Shankarlinge Gowda, M.K. Somashekar, G.T. Devegowda; MLC Chikkamadu; Mysore Zilla Panchayat vice-president K. Marigowda; and Deputy Commissioner S. Selvakumar were present.
