FOR FARMERS: Apex Bank chairman M.N. Rajendra Kumar inaugurating the IFFCO training programme in Mangalore on Tuesday. Photo: R. Eswarraj
MANGALORE: The inputs to the farming sector such as seeds and fertilizers should be made available on time and in adequate proportions lest they become useless and unproductive, State Co-operative Apex Bank chairman M.N. Rajendra Kumar has said. He was presiding over the training programme for farmers and co-operatives organised by IFFCO here on Tuesday. Mr. Kumar said the farmers were entitled to their share of inputs such as fertilizers which many traders hoarded and increased the prices. That should be discouraged by the multi state co-operatives like IFFCO that was also the largest producer of fertilizers in the country. He said evil trade practices such as hoarding and speculating could be stopped only by sustained pro-farmer efforts of the co-operatives that produced farm inputs. Director of IFFCO G.N. Saxena, who inaugurated the training session, said IFFCO had been making constant efforts to improve the quality of life of farmers.
