S.R. Ashok Kumar

He plays the role of a journalist

NEW ROLE: Actors Sarath Kumar and Nayanthara in `Thalaimagan'.

CHENNAI: `Thalaimagan' is special for actor Sarath Kumar.

It will be his 100th film, and Sarath Kumar is directing the film planned for release on Deepavali day.

He plays an investigative journalist Dheeran in the movie. A significant role when you consider the fact that Sarath Kumar was a journalist before he entered filmdom.

With `Thalaimagan', produced by Radaan Media Works, Sarath Kumar's career comes full circle.

He started off as a producer, then played villain roles in movies, who later evolved into a mass hero. With this movie he turns director.

"I acted in the film `Athikaalai... Subhavelai', which was composer Deva's first movie. So, I have asked his son Srikanth Deva to tune two songs for `Thalaimagan'. Another music director Paul Jacob has also worked in the movie," he says.

The film's first schedule took care of the climax, a difficult part of the shoot that took eight days of continuous work involving 850 artists.

Actor Nayanthara, who played his love interest in earlier movie `Ayya', is to team up with the brawny hero in this movie too.

"She is not a glamour doll in the film, but has an equally strong role.

"I am fighting not one villain in the film but three — Mukesh Tiwari, Seema Biswas and John Vijay."

Actor Seema Biswas (of `Bandit Queen' fame) plays a police officer.

Vali and Vairamuthu have penned some memorable lyrics for the film.

Krishna Kaimal is the cinematographer.
