With reference to the news report `Maran for consensus on Tamil character encoding for computing' ( The Hindu , September 5, 2006 city), Prof. M. Anandakrishnan, who chaired the technical session, writes: The report ... states that ``The conference resolved that the all-character scheme presented online at www.tunerfc.tn.gov.in and placed in the Private User Area of the Unicode block be taken as the final version''. This statement is totally contrary to what was recommended by the technical session chaired by me.
The conference recommended that the all-character scheme presented in the Tamil Nadu website should be substantially modified and revised. Thereafter, it should be extensively tested through applications such as e-governance and web publishing. The scheme should be widely publicised worldwide to obtain comments from Tamil computing community and industry before adoption as a national standard.
