Free coaching classes

CHENNAI: Young Men's Indian Association will conduct free coaching classes for civil services preliminary examinations. It will be held from September 9. Those interested can contact 044-25221654.

ENT camp

Chitras ENT Laser Surgery Super speciality hospital will organise a free ENT camp on September 10 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in association with Rotary Chitras and Cancer Care Trust. Physicians will screen patients for sinus, ear and voice problems, head-neck and cancer. Free endoscopic and microscopic tests will be conducted. Surgery will also be provided. The venue is 30-C, Cathedral Garden Road, Nungambakkam.

Spoken English

Ramakrishna Mission Ashram will start the eighth batch of the spoken English course for college students, employees, job seekers and others. Applications and prospectus will be issued till September 15 at a cost of Rs. 25. Classes will commence from September 18. Course fee is Rs. 650 for the basic module and Rs. 900 for the advanced level. The amount is inclusive of tuition fee and the cost of textbooks and course material.

Cataract camp

Lions Club of Meenambakkam organised a free cataract camp at Muthialpet High School in Thambu Chetty Street on September 5. More than 200 persons were screened and 30 wee referred for cataract surgery. Free surgery will be conducted at Sankara Nethralaya.

The club will also organise an eye and dental camp for inmates of Faith Home School at Porur on September 6.

The dental check-up will be done by doctors of Meenakshi Dental College and Hospital.

Energy seminar

Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering organised a seminar on `Renewable Energy Sources' recently. P. Radhakrishna, Director, Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, stressed the importance of non-conventional energy sources and its cost-effectiveness.

He urged students to take up R&D to promote usage of non-conventional energy sources.

Dental camp

More than 600 people from rural areas attended a community ophthalmology and dental camp that was held at Government High School in Tiruvallur on September 3.

More than 200 spectacles as well as medicines were distributed free. Eighty persons were referred for surgery at Sri Ramachandra Medical Institute in Porur.

Drawing competition

Rotary Club of Madras Northwest organised a drawing competition for school students on September 2 at Pasumpon Thevar Mandapam on Habibullah Road in T. Nagar. More than 70 students from 12 city schools participated. Experts adjudged winners and prizes distributed the same day.
