HYDERABAD: Minister for Mines Sabita Reddy has indicated that special compensation package may be announced for the Outer Ring Road displaced this week. She told reporters on Tuesday that a Cabinet sub-committee was considering all aspects and grievances with regard to ORR. The issue of compensating those who had lost house sites in the acquired gram panchayat and other layouts for the project would also be discussed. The Government was also planning to give 250 sq.yards site besides compensation to those who lose their houses and it would be worth much more than what one had lost.
Opposition criticised
The genuine farmers who were losing lands due to ORR were not many. The Chief Minister gave a direction three months ago to formulate a special package for farmers. But local body elections delayed it and in the meantime the issue was politicised, the Minister said. She charged that the Opposition were only interested in knowing whose lands were acquired rather than making any constructive suggestions on compensation to displaced.
