Haj applicants asked to wait till September 15

Staff Reporter

Hyderabad: Haj applicants are asked to wait till September 15 for enhancement of State quota, for draw of lots to finalise waiting list and for refund of amount for the rejected applications. Efforts are on to seek further enhancement of the State quota to enable all applicants to perform Haj, said Hafiz Peer Shabbir Ahmed, chairman, State Haj Committee.

In a statement, he said draw of lots in the State had been done on district-wise basis so as to ensure justice to all.

In other States, draw of lots was done on the basis of total applications received, putting many pilgrims to distress.

The Uttar Pradesh Haj Committee held `qurrah' and rejected 8,000 applications out of 18,000, Mr. Shabbir Ahmed said.

He said there were no guidelines to conduct the draw on the basis of age of applicants or on first-come-first-serve basis.
