BANGALORE: Angry public on Tuesday stoned a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus that knocked down a motorcycle on Hosur Road, killing a young engineer. Police said the accident occurred around 8.30 a.m. near Koodlu Gate. The victim was identified as Sandeep (25), a mechanical engineer at an industry in Bommasandra Industrial Area. He was a native of Balehonnur taluk in Chikmagalur district and a resident of Rajajinagar here. While Sandeep was on his way to work, the bus hit his motorcycle and it ran over him as he fell on the road, police said. Angered by Sandeep's death, passers-by, mainly factory workers who were on their way to work, gathered at the accident spot and stoned the bus, damaging its windscreen. They also attempted to set the bus on fire. On learning about the accident and the unruly incidents that followed, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the irate public. The Madivala traffic police have seized the bus and arrested the driver.
Man murdered
A construction worker was allegedly bludgeoned to death at his house in Bhadrappa Layout in Hebbal police station limits in the early hours of Monday. Police gave his name as Anagamuthu (38), a native of Villupuram in Tamil Nadu. His head had been smashed with a boulder. The police, who learnt of the incident at 11 a.m. on Monday, suspect that he was murdered around 3 a.m. Preliminary investigation has revealed that unable to bear his harassment, Anagamuthu's wife had allegedly killed him, the police said. A police team has gone to Villupuram in search of the suspect. The Hebbal police have registered a case.
Attacked
Five employees of a wine store on Bannerghatta Road were injured after a group of six costumers attacked them with clubs and knives on Monday night. Police said that following an argument over settling the bill, the customers attacked the cashier Chanappa and suppliers Ganesh, Raghu, Javare Gowda and Ganesh. The injured were treated at a hospital. The MICO Layout police have registered a case.
Driver stabbed
An armed gang attacked a car driver, working with a travel agency in Shankarnagar, with swords and choppers in Nandini Layout police station limits on Monday night. Police said that around 11 p.m., Ravi Kumar, the driver, came out of a bar situated near Mahalakshmi Layout bus stand. While he was about to get into his car, the armed men, who came in a multi-utility vehicle, attacked him. An injured Kumar, a resident of Krishnanandanagar, has been hospitalised. Rivalry between some taxi drivers is suspected to be the motive behind the attack. The Nandini Layout police have registered a case.
Youth stabbed
A 17-year-old youth was stabbed to death in Byatarayanapura police station limits on Monday night. The police gave the name of the dead as Beeresh Kumar, a resident of Maruthinagar on Mysore Road. Around 9 p.m. some people came near Kumar's house and stabbed him in the abdomen with knives. An injured Kumar died on way to hospital. The motive behind the murder is not known, the police said. Kumar was a school dropout and was jobless.
