Lover stabbed to death; man in hospital
According to the police, it all happened in the afternoon when Renu came to meet her friend and neighbour Monica. Renu and Monica's brother Rajesh were allegedly having an affair. Soon after Renu arrived, Rajesh sent Monica away to bring water for him and then allegedly stabbed Renu at least thrice with a knife. Hearing her screams, Monica rushed to the room. She found that Rajesh had slit his own throat and Renu was lying in a pool of blood. They were rushed to AIIMS where Renu was declared dead on arrival. The police said Rajesh had lost much blood and was in a critical state. Enquiries revealed that though Rajesh and Renu, who was pursuing her graduation through correspondence, were having an affair for a long time, their parents were not aware about the relationship. With his polio-afflicted legs, Rajesh apparently did not foresee a future with Renu and the police suspect that it was because of this that he decided to kill her and end his own life. The Mehrauli police have seized the weapon of offence and registered a case. Rajesh's father is an employee with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi while Renu's father is a sweeper.
Three held for murder and robbery cases
Acting on a tip-off that some criminals involved in a murder at Sultanpuri would assemble in Mangolpuri Industrial Area, a team led by Inspector K.G. Tyagi laid a trap and intercepted them, at which one of the accused fired. However, the police overpowered all three and seized the country-made firearm. They were identified as Sarfaraz, Sanjay and Nadeem. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in at least three cases of murder, besides robberies. At their instance, the police have launched a hunt for their accomplice Asif.
Man posing as police inspector arrested
On Monday night, Rajnish Gupta lodged a complaint at the New Usmanpur police station alleging that a man claiming to be an inspector with the Crime Branch was trying to extort Rs. 10,000 from him saying he would otherwise frame him in a case under the Copyrights Act. Acting on the complaint, the police laid a trap and arrested the accused soon after he accepted Rs. 5,000 from Ms. Gupta. They also seized his motorcycle that bore a Delhi police logo. During interrogation, he identified himself as Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Gokalpuri.
