This Day That Age
The Railway Minister, Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, told the Lok Sabha on September 5 that the Inspector of Railways, who had visited the scene of the recent train disaster near Mahbubnagar, in connection with the enquiry into the accident, had been asked to expedite his report. Mr. Shastri said he was not against a judicial enquiry being held. After the report of the Inspector was available, they could take a decision whether to hold a judicial enquiry or not. The Railway Minister, who visited the scene of occurrence, gave details of the accident in a statement. He said the death roll had now reached 117. He would request the House to wait till the receipt of the findings of the Inspector of Railways. The Inspector might take about a week to complete his interim report. The Government would examine it and thereafter it would be for Parliament to decide what should be done next.
