Cognizant's IT Infrastructure Services get a boost

  • Transaction cost is $15 m in cash
  • Cognizant's seventh acquisition
  • AimNet CEO to join Cognizant

CHENNAI: Cognizant Technology Solutions, a provider of IT services, has acquired Massachusetts-based AimNet Solutions, a managed infrastructure and professional services firm, for a consideration of $15 million in cash.

By acquiring AimNet, Cognizant would gain capabilities and expertise to strengthen its fast-growing IT Infrastructure Services (ITIS) practice. AimNet is a privately held company and was founded in 2000 by former AT&T executives. It has over 100 employees. AimNet offers a full range of IT infrastructure management services from consulting to managed services.

This transaction provides Cognizant with a state-of-the-art US-based Network Operations Centre (NOC), patent-pending, proprietary infrastructure management software platform, an installed base of over 80 direct and indirect customers and partners, and high-end network and infrastructure consulting capabilities in areas such as network architecture, planning, design and infrastructure security solutions.

In a release issued here on Wednesday, R. Chandrasekaran, Managing Director, Cognizant, said about two-thirds of AimNet's revenue currently came from managed services. Consulting services contributed the remainder.

AimNet was Cognizant's seventh acquisition in the last five years, but all of them had been small acquisitions.

The company had made three acquisitions in the U.S. (ACES, American Express account from Silverline Technologies, and Fathom,), two in Europe (UHG and Infopulse), and one in India (Ygyan).

AimNet had over 80 direct customers across various industries, ten of which were channel re-sellers reaching a total of close to 700 end-user companies. Some of them are large/blue-chip companies.

The Chief Executive Officer of AimNet, Ed Nalbandian, would join Cognizant to manage its IT Infrastructure Services practice.
