Bangalore: The curved entrée with golden paint splashed on the arch more than welcomes you to The Hindu-Metroplus Lifestyle Show at the Palace Grounds (on till September 11). Former athlete Ashwini Nachappa cut the ribbon and lit the huge brass lamp aglow to declare the Lifestyle Show open on Wednesday. "The show put across with finesse should provide a good retreat to Bangaloreans for some variety shopping without being pushed around," Ms. Ashwini said. "It is a great idea to begin a show with archival photos from the political and sports world, and when it comes from the 127-year-old newspaper like The Hindu, one knows there will be rarities captured in print. For instance, the exceptional sight of Indian marathon racer B. Akotkar at the national stadium in Tokyo in 1965 is an attention-grabbing photo! Beyond that, the range of the exhibition will invite diehard shoppers," added Ms. Ashwini after a walk around the 150 stalls. The huge foyer opens with wooden pieces from Vietnam's Limited Editions display of benches, seating and dining. Next is a weaving unit from Kancheepuram with a weaver demonstrating RMKV's "Cinderella Pavadai" that has the story of Cinderella woven in the border. "We will complete the pavadai before the lifestyle show ends," says Manickavasagam, partner RMKV. Gift articles, garments, furnishing, car and accessories, kitchenware, household cleaners, fitness equipment and jewellery... all find a place here.
