NEW DELHI: Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports on the killing of Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal, a professor of Ujjain's Government Madhav College of Arts and Commerce, the National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday called for a report from the Madhya Pradesh Government. The Chief Secretary and Director General of Police have been asked to look into the matter and send a report within 15 days. After going through the media reports, the Commission said that if the press reports were correct, it raised a "serious issue of violation of human rights of the citizens."
`Tampering with evidence'
The deceased professor's son Himanshu Sabharwal has also filed a complaint with NHRC on the incident and alleged that the police was tampering with the evidence and protecting the guilty. The complainant has sought an impartial enquiry into the incident.
