JAIPUR: The Rajasthan State Commission for Minorities has termed the opposition to the singing of Vande Mataram, scheduled for September 7 in schools all over the country, as "an insult to freedom fighters and makers of the Constitution." "Vande Mataram is above caste and religion. Reciting it is a matter of national pride," the Commission said in a statement. "Those who oppose its singing are creating an unwanted and undesirable controversy over a song which inspired many generations of our countrymen. The decision on its singing at national level is a welcome step. Such occasions are necessary to instil patriotic feeling among the youth of the nation," Jasbir Singh, Chairman, State Commission for Minorities, said. "No religion or creed keeps any reservations about the duties towards one's country. Those who oppose the national song are also insulting their own religion and their nationality," Mr. Singh said.
