NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded a thorough probe into the allegations made by Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scandal, during a narco-analysis test that he apparently underwent in 2003. Party spokesman Prakash Javadekar pointed out that Telgi had made allegations against some top politicians, including Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chhagan Bhujbal and Sharad Pawar. He demanded that the results of the test officially released. On wheat imports, the BJP noted that under the latest round of tenders the average price of wheat to be imported was worked out at Rs. 10 per kg against Rs. 8 after the first batch of tenders was floated in February. The country was importing wheat after eight years. While the Indian farmers were offered Rs. 650 a quintal, the imported wheat would cost much more. By not offering a higher minimum support price, the Government, Mr. Javadekar alleged, had allowed private traders and multinational companies a free hand.
Rana's criticism
To a question on the party's Surat MP Kashiram Rana criticising the Gujarat Government for its "inept handling" of the floods, Mr. Javadekar said BJP president Rajnath Singh had told Mr. Rana that his remarks were not in the interest of the party. The MP was told that he should help the Government in relief work and refrain from making such remarks. Mr. Rana reportedly assured Mr. Singh that he would abide by his decision.
