High Court judgments will be just a click away soon

Nearly 300 important judgments have been posted on the Net

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has been putting on the Internet selected judgments. With this, it has joined the select club of courts that display judgments on the Net.

As of now, nearly 300 important judgments, most of them screened by a committee of judges, have been put on the Net. In the next few months, almost all judgments will be available online.

Justice S.R. Bannurmath, who is in charge of the computerisation programme of the judiciary in the State, told The Hindu that initially, only judgments of the larger bench, full court and division bench were put on the Net. They could be put on the Net only after the server was upgraded to ensure that it could support the uplinking of judgments.

PDF format

Some of the judgments had now been classified according to the month and listed in PDF format on the High Court website. Some of these judgments had been reported in the Indian Law Reports, Karnataka series, he said.

The interactive voice recorder system (IVRS) for obtaining details on the state of cases had been developed and it was being put through a series of tests before it was formally inaugurated, he said.

The IVRS, as a part of the pilot project, would initially be installed on the High Court premises and then extended to other courts.

An advocate, client or even a court official would have to only key in a case number and the system would spell out the status, he said.

Display boards

Another new tool, which was almost complete, was computerised display boards. These would be put up in front of each of the court halls and on the premises of the advocates' association. They would automatically display the name and number of a case being called out in court, he added.
