Belgaum: The management of the K.L.E. Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHE), a deemed university here, has appointed Chandrasekhar Kokate as its first Vice-Chancellor. He took charge on the occasion of Teacher's Day on Tuesday. Dr. Kokate is credited with rich experience of about 40 years in academics, research and administration. He did his Ph.D. in pharmacy in 1972. He was Post-doctoral Fellow in Research at Bundesansatalt Fuer Forschung, Germany. He has been visiting scientist in Germany on invitation by DAAD. Dr. Kokate has been Vice-Chancellor twice of Kakatiya University, Warangal, and Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He served as president of Pharmacy Council of India from 1998 to 2003. He held positions in All-India Council for Technical Edcuation, National Assessment and Accreditation Council, University Grants Commission's Committee for Deemed Universities, Defence Research and Development Organisation, and Drugs Technical Advisory Board. He was president of Indian Pharmaceutical Association. He has served as expert for U.P.S.C., C.S.I.R., I.D.M.A., I.C.A.R., I.S.T.E., and Public Service Commissions of three States. He has received many national awards and citations including Indira Priyadarishini National Award, Best Teacher Award of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
