Melodies by K.P. Udayabhanu enthral music buffs in city

Carnatic concerts and `Ishal Nilavu' are the highlights today

KOZHIKODE: Music buffs thronged the Government Model HSS grounds in the city on Wednesday evening to hear veteran playback singer K.P.Udayabhanu and others. The Onam celebrations being organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council and Department of Tourism witnessed yoga and wrestling contests at the Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday .

Staging of folk arts including `Pookkavadi, `Karagayattam,' `kalayattam,' `mappila kolkali,' and `adivasi nritham' at Mananchira in the city added glitter to the celebrations. At Jaya Auditorium Vijay Shiva enthralled the audience. This was followed by a mohiniyattam performance by Vinitha Nedungadi.

At the literary festival, seminar on poetry and a poetry session were organised. Staging of two plays `Maram Peyunnu' and `Chakka' were the highlights of the literary fest.

The valedictory function would be held at Model HSS on Thursday. Forest Minister Benoy Viswom will inaugurate the valedictory meeting, followed by a `Ishal Nilavu' by V.M.Kutty and party. Carnatic concerts at Jaya Auditorium, folk arts including `Mudiyettu,' Mappilapattu, `vattakali and `kulavanthira' at Mananchira and `kalaripayattu' and karate at Indoor Stadium are the highlights of Thursday's programme. The final day of the celebrations on Thursday will also witness seminar on theatre, story and staging of play, `Kshanikkunnu Kudumbasametham'. Onam celebrations were also being held at Vadkara, Koyilandy and at Thusharagiri.
