NEW DELHI: Dance competitions are the in-thing these days. No wonder quite a few shows being aired on television channels are centred around them. Ballroom Bootcamp is a professional ballroom dance competition now being aired on Discovery Travel and Living channel every Saturday. In each episode three ordinary people willcompete with one another in one form of Ballroom Dancing. Whether it's Waltz, Rumba, Jazz, Cha Cha or Jive, each episode has three persons learning one of these dance forms and then performing in the competition. At Ballroom Bootcamp, the performers have only five weeks to learn, practise, perform and finally compete with one another to win this unique dance competition. Three very talented dance instructors will train three people for five weeks and let them go through a rigorous schedule before they are made ready to compete with one another. Waltz is characterised by three steps, elegant long-flowing movements and continuous turns, while Cha Cha is a flirtatious, highly rhythmic Latin dance based on two rock steps. Jive is a fast and fun swing dance filled with kicks, spins, triple steps on the toes and plenty of boogie-woogie. Tango is a passionate and energetic dance characterised by precise staccato footwork, sharp head turns and fluid graceful movement. Rhumba is the most romantic of the Latin dances, requiring strong hip action, powerful leg movement and deep emotional expression. The hugely popular international dance show will go on till September 23.
